Twitter is working for some small businesses

After reading an online article referred to me by Jeff Pangborn of Rose City Heating & Cooling titled “Mom-and-Pop Operators Turn to Social Media” I have seen more evidence that certain small businesses can profit from using Twitter.

However after reading the article I don’t see any examples of  samll businesses other than retail ones using Twitter to their advantage. If you own a retail business it would be very worth your while to read this article and even if you aren’t it is more information toward understanding Twitters possibilities for small business in general.

Twitter is Generating a lot of Press!

July 20th, 2009 admin No comments

According to news-monitoring service VMS, a cool $48 million over the past 30 days. (That’s half of what Microsoft plans to spend marketing its biggest product launch of the year, Bing.)

The question all the experts are asking is will the growth and popularity of Twitter continue or will it slow down and level off as other social networks such as Facebook and Linkedin.

My guess is yes it will, while there is all this hype about Twitter it will attract new users, users I will call curious, lookyloo types.  Once they get bored with it the ones left will be those who have found use that is of value to them. I would guess that will represent about 10% of all those who attracted by all the hype.

WILL SEE IF I AM RIGHT?

Is Twitter of Any Value to Small Business

July 18th, 2009 admin No comments

We are hearing a lot about twitter these days, politicians are using it to stay in touch with their supporters, news organizations such as Fox News are using it to alert their followers of breaking news and hot issues but is it of any value to small business. The honest answer is I don’t know? at least not yet.

I hear a lot from people who make a living of writing, talking and consulting in regards to all this new technology and wonderful it is for business and how we need to jump on the band wagon or we will be missing out on business and will be buried by our competition who is taking advantage of it.

I don’t believe that of course but I am trying to sift through all the information to see if there is some value to a small business.

So far the only thing I have come up with is the example of following your favorite eatery on Twitter so you can receive their latest discount.  Of course their are not more probably than a handful doing this but it does make some sense to me, say for example you were a pizzaria,  Twitter would be a very inexpensive way to pass on a coupon to your most popluar customers.
